cucumber chutney

remember the yellow cucumber balls? and my effort to make pickles out of them?

slippery pickles

the word ‘pickle’ calls up a certain image and set of expectations of how they’ll taste, no? well, the end result of what i pickled does not live up to those expectations. they’re not crispy, they’re sweeter but still sour at the same time, and they’re definitely slippery instead of being cool and crunchy. they taste good, actually, they just don’t taste like pickles. they taste more like a chunky, relish-y, kind of thing you put on a main course, probably a meat dish.

so, rather than considering them a pickle failure, i’m calling them a cucumber chutney success. now, to find a recipe that farmer woob can make with them!
