we checked on the bees this weekend and they seem to be doing just fine. they’re building comb, the queen is laying brood, and the bee population has definitely increased. i even saw some nectar in the process of being capped to make honey.
i was a little worried when i saw that the pollen substitute i had put in the hive had gotten rather moldy with no sign that the bees had taken any of it. but then i took a closer look at the bees going in and out of the hive and saw that they’re bringing their own pollen home. here’s a short video – you can see the pollen as yellow blobs on some of the gals’ legs:
